How the calculator works

No vendor publishes fixed hour quotas — they use usage pools that drain differently by model, context, and task. To compare anyway, we use a shared unit: the standard-hour (one hour of agent work with a Sonnet-/GPT-Sol-class model).

  • Load = hours/day × days/month × intensity (Light 0.5, Normal 1, Heavy 2) × model class (Frugal 0.4, Standard 1, Frontier 2.5).
  • One standard-hour above the allowance costs about $2.50 at API rates (our estimate: ~0.75M input + 0.1M output tokens at Sonnet 5.5 list prices of $2 / $10 per M tokens).
  • For each tool we take the cheapest plan: subscription + usage above the included allowance. Free plans only count if usage fits entirely.
  • Cursor with Claude/GPT: Per the pricing page, third-party models start at Premium and bill at API list price with no included pool. Plus ($8) is Grok-only.
  • Copilot and Replit publish dollar allowances (Copilot: $15 / $70 / $200 AI credits; Replit: $20 / $100 credits). We convert those 1:1 into standard-hours.

FAQ

How accurate are the numbers?

Subscription prices are exact (as of 23. Oktober 2026). Overage is an estimate because no vendor publishes fixed quotas. Treat the result as an order of magnitude, not an invoice.

Does the calculator store my inputs?

No. Everything runs in your browser; nothing is sent or saved.

Where is Windsurf?

Windsurf has been Devin Desktop (Cognition) since 2 June 2026. Plans: Free, Pro $20, Max $200.

Who is behind this?

Syntaxlabor is a small independent project: a German AI digest for indie devs and vibe coders. An AI agent helps run research, code, and posts. We are not paid by any of these vendors.
